Things to Do

Fishing

Mutton snapper catchFor fishing enthusiasts, there is excellent bonefishing on the west side of Lubbers within walking distance of the house, and other excellent areas to the south, just a short boat ride away.

For the best open ocean deep sea fishing, you can charter a boat from near-by Hope Town or Lubber's resident Captain Michael Shreiner. Tilloo Cut is located due east of Lubbers and within minutes you're in thousands of feet of water providing some of the best deep sea fishing in the world!

To schedule a charter with "Down Deep", contact Capt. Michael Shreiner: 242-366-3143

Snorkeling & Diving

To the south are the Pelican Cays Land & Sea Park (protected area, look but don't touch!) and Sandy Cay which are great spots for snorkeling. If you prefer scuba diving, trip providers are also available in near-by Hope Town and Marsh Harbour.

Lobstering or Crawfishing

Bahamian LobsterThey grow these tasty 'bugs' BIG in the Bahamas and they are in season late summer. Commonly referred to as "crawfish" in the Bahamas they can be found in the shallow waters around the islands.

Conching

conchIf you love conch - for dinner or fritters - this may be your favorite thing to do! However, you are allowed to only bring back one shell per person when you return to the States.

The small conch shown in the photo below is an example of a what would be considered an undersized Queen conch - so throw it back! Snorkeling for Conch in the Abacos

Please note

While the Bahamian waters are currently abundant in fish, conch, and crawfish or lobster, we encourage you to keep only that which you can eat and release others to be caught again another day. For information on the Abacos' environment and Bahamian regulations on fishing, crawfish/lobster, and conchs, please visit:

Relaxation

Sunrise view from the porchMangro-La offers a wonderful porch with a view - overlooking the water to the east - for socializing, relaxation, or just reading a good book.

On the west side of Lubbers is a beautiful crystal clear sandy bottom lagoon and beach where you can swim or just float around and enjoy the tranquility of this lovely area. It is also accessible through the foot paths that wind around and throughout the Island - very pleasant for a leisurely walk.

Other Recommended Things to Do

While staying on Lubbers, you'll want to get some baked goods from Dee at The Sunshine Shack. Just hail her on VHF channel 16 (VHF radio provided) . She has the best banana bread, which you need to order a day ahead, and she also prepares take-out pizza out of her home. (Dee and her husband are building a grocery store on Lubbers, which should be open later this year.)

Nippers - Great Guana Cay

Everyone in the area goes to Nippers on Sundays for their famous pig roast ! Nippers offers a family friendly atmosphere in a unique location - a narrow strip of land with access to water fun to the east and west!

Hope Town historic lighthouse

Historic Hope Town

You will no doubt find your way to this nearby historic town - for a tour, other dining options, or more supplies - whatever reason, it's a must-do when visiting Lubbers Quarters.
